In observance of the death of former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala in Gurugram, the Haryana government announced a three-day state mourning starting on Friday.

“The state administration has chosen to observe a three-day state mourning period, which will take place from December 20 to 22. According to an order from the Haryana chief secretary’s office, the national flag will fly at half-mast on all buildings in the state during this time.

It said that there would be no official entertainment during this time and that all state government operations would be suspended.

In remembrance of the deceased, the Haryana government has also proclaimed Saturday a public holiday in all state government agencies, according to the directive.

At 3 p.m., Om Prakash Chautala will have a state funeral at Teja Khera farm in the Sirsa district, where his family is originally from.

Om Prakash Chautala, five-time Haryana chief minister and president of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), passed away in Gurugram on Friday at the age of 89.

A party spokesperson informed PTI that Mr. Chautala, the son of former deputy prime minister Devi Lal, had a heart attack at home and was sent to the hospital right away, but he was not able to be saved.

According to a senior police official, he passed away in Medanta Hospital at around midday.
