Fire Hydrants Went Dry, Investigation Demanded

Governor Newsom said that some fire hydrants ran out of water, which caused problems in firefighting operations against the wildfires. He wrote this in a letter to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the Los Angeles County Public Works Department. He said:

“Fire hydrants running out of water affected the safety of some homes and evacuation corridors. We need an answer about this.”

Hurricane Winds and Dry Conditions Made the Fire More Difficult

The fire, which started on January 7, became more dangerous due to dry conditions and hurricane-force winds. Governor Newsom said:

“Public infrastructure is under tremendous strain. Hurricane winds and dry conditions have created an unprecedented urban-wildlands disaster that has stretched resources to their limits.”

Support to Trump and Appeal to See Ground Reality

On January 10, Newsom sent a letter to President-elect Trump asking for continuity of federal support. He said:

“In 2018, we watched the devastation of the Camp Fire and Woolsey Fire together. Now the same story is being repeated with this fire. Communities and traditions have been wiped out in some places.”

He invited Trump to personally see the devastation of Los Angeles and meet the affected people.

Gratitude for federal support, but danger still continues

Governor Newsom thanked the federal support, but also said that the danger has not ended yet. He warned that strong winds of up to 70 mph would continue for the next few days, and dry conditions could cause the fire to spread even more.

Need for Unity and Appeal to Stay Away from Politics

Newsom called on the community not to politicize the disaster, but to focus on recovery together. He said

“This tragedy is not for any kind of disinformation or political blame game. Americans need everyone’s cooperation for a fast recovery and rebuild.”

The Los Angeles wildfires are not just a natural disaster, but highlight flaws in infrastructure and planning. Now it remains to be seen how the state and federal levels work together to recover from this.
