Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder Case Update:  The inquiry into the rape and killing of a trainee physician at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital is still ongoing, and new information has surfaced. Four hospital staff members will undergo polygraph examinations, commonly referred to as lie detector tests, by the CBI to ascertain whether they were complicit in the crime, according to sources.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee (PGT) doctor was discovered deceased in a hospital seminar hall. The day following the event, Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was taken into custody by the accused.
Roy reportedly entered the seminar hall at 4:03 in the morning while the victim was still asleep. He reportedly raped and killed her before exiting the hall at 4:40 a.m. It is thought that the victim passed away between 4:15 and 4:40 in the morning.

Two first-year PGT doctors whose fingerprints were discovered in the lecture room are undergoing polygraph examinations by the CBI. The night of the event, they were on duty with the victim and had supper together before going to the seminar room.

A member of the house staff who was seen on CCTV leaving the first floor emergency and an intern who was on the same level and spoke with the victim before she went to bed are also undergoing polygraph testing.

The CBI wants to find out if these four people were involved in a conspiracy or altered any evidence, despite the fact that DNA evidence from the victim’s body and medical reports do not clearly connect them to the crime, according to sources.

According to testimony from the four people, the following is the course of events on that fatal night:

• After dining with the victim at around twelve in the morning, the two first-year trainee doctors watched the Olympic Javelin Final in the seminar room.

• The three chose to take a nap in the seminar room because a polysomnography test was taking place in the sleep room.

• After the test, which ended at around 1:30 or 2:00 a.m., the first-year doctors proceeded to the sleep room in case they had to see any patients.

• The victim didn’t leave the seminar space.

• When there was an emergency on the first level, the home staff member was on duty. Around 2:45 a.m., he went to the third floor, and he got back between 3:30 and 3:45 a.m.

• On the third floor, in a different room, was the intern.

• None of the four claimed to have heard anything from the seminar room.

• The next morning, the first-year medical student found the victim’s body and informed hospital authorities.

The CBI is looking into possible discrepancies in the four people’s accounts, including the reason the trainee doctor called for assistance rather than the others. It is anticipated that the polygraph exams will shed more light on the situation.

In addition, the investigation team requested authorization to administer a polygraph examination on Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s now-formal principal. The test can be administered to all five of the persons, the court approved.
