EPFO Rule Update: The Central Government has issued a new order for the Employee Provident Fund Organization through the Ministry of Labor. Under this order, the government has asked to make Aadhaar-based OTP (One Time Password) mandatory for activation of UAN (Universal Account Number) of employees. After activating UAN through OTP, employees will be able to easily avail all the online services of EPFO.

The Ministry of Labor is working to fulfill the promises made during the Union Budget 2025, so that employers and applicants can benefit from ELI (Employee Linked Scheme). For this, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has asked EPFO to work in campaign mode, so that UAN of employees can be activated.

Through this system, employees can avail 24×7 services of EPFO from home. This means that they will not need to go to EPFO office. EPFO will expand this system to its zonal and regional offices so that its reach can increase. Biometric authentication will also be included in the second phase of the process, which will help in UAN activation through face recognition.
EPFO Rule Update: How to Complete Activation Process with Aadhaar-Based OTP
The activation process can be completed using Aadhaar-based OTP (One-Time Password). For this, employers have to ensure that their employees activate their UAN by following the steps given below:
1. Visit EPFO Member Portal.
2. Click on “Activate UAN”, which is under Important Links category.
3. Enter your UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth and mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
4. Ensure that your mobile number is linked to Aadhaar, so that you can get access to all the digital services of EPFO.
5. Agree to Aadhaar OTP validation.
6. Click on “Get Authorization PIN” to receive OTP on your Aadhaar linked mobile number.
7. Complete the activation by entering the OTP.
After successful activation, a password will be sent to your registered mobile number.
