Delhi New Metro Line

Delhi New Metro Line: In Phase-4 of Delhi Metro, a new metro line is being built from Tughlakabad to Delhi Aerocity to increase the connectivity of South Delhi. Tughlakabad will be the first interchange station in this project, which will have underground parking facility. This ‘Golden Line’ will have a connection with Sarita Vihar Depot and it is planned to start it by 2026.

Delhi New Metro Line: South Delhi will get better connection with the airport

In Phase-4, South Delhi is getting the gift of a new metro line. This metro line is being built between Tughlakabad and Delhi Aerocity, which will improve the connection of South, South-East and South-West Delhi with Indira Gandhi International Airport and surrounding areas. At present, there is an elevated metro station of Violet Line (Kashmere Gate to Ballabhgarh) in Tughlakabad. Now another underground metro station is being built here, which will become an interchange station. The new ‘Golden Line’ will start from here and go to Aerocity. Passengers will have to walk only 45 meters for interchange.

Delhi New Metro Line: Tughlakabad will become the new hub of the metro

According to DMRC, after Phase-4, Tughlakabad will emerge as an important hub in the metro network. Delhi Metro’s Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said that the new and old stations of Tughlakabad will be connected through a 45 meter long subway. Through this subway, passengers will be able to interchange between the stations of both the lines in the paid area of the station itself. The special thing is that for this the passengers will have to walk less than 50 meters.

Delhi New Metro Line: The first interchange station will be with underground parking

The new underground metro station being built in Tughlakabad will be special in itself. Its entire structure will be four-level, which will be built at a depth of 23 meters from the ground. There will be underground parking on the first level, below it there will be concourse and platform levels.

The parking area will be connected to both the ground level and the concourse. About 250 vehicles can be parked here at a time. People can park their vehicles and reach the concourse level of the Violet and Golden lines through lifts, stairs or escalators. Tughlakabad will be the first interchange station of the Delhi Metro that will have underground parking. Although the Dhansa Bus Stand Metro station of the Grey Line also has underground parking, it is not an interchange station.

Delhi New Metro Line: Will be directly connected to Sarita Vihar Depot

The new Tughlakabad metro station, which will be the terminal station of the Golden Line, is being directly connected to the Sarita Vihar Depot. Through this connection, the trains running from here will be able to be sent to the Sarita Vihar Metro Depot for maintenance. For this, a tunnel is being built which will be between Tughlakabad and Sarita Vihar Depot, through which the trains will be able to reach the depot directly. Along with the Violet Line, the maintenance of the trains of the Golden Line will also be done in this depot. Meaning, Sarita Vihar Depot will in a way become a maintenance hub for both the lines.

Delhi New Metro Line: Will bypass below the railway line

The tunneling which is being done between Tughlakabad Metro Station and Tughlakabad Railway Colony Metro Station will pass below the Delhi-Palwal section. This section is the busiest section of Indian Railways. Meaning, railway trains will run above and metro will pass below this tunnel. The uppermost part of the tunnel will be approximately 18 meters below the surface of the railway line. The outer diameter of the tunnel will be 6.35 meters and an inner circle will be made by using concrete segments (275 mm thickness) inside it.

Delhi New Metro Line: First and last station will be interchanged

The Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor which is 23.62 km long will have 15 metro stations, of which 4 will be elevated and 11 will be underground stations. The special thing is that both terminal stations of this line will be interchange stations. There will be interchange facility with Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line at both Tughlakabad and Aerocity stations. Apart from this, passengers will also be able to interchange at Chhatarpur and Saket G Block metro stations.

In this way, interchange of the new metro line being constructed from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block with Violet, Yellow, Orange Line will also be possible. The work of interchange station at Tughlakabad is progressing rapidly and so far 60% civil work has been completed. The Golden Line is expected to be operational by March 2026.
