Varanasi railway station fire: Massive Fire Erupts at Varanasi Railway Station, Destroys 200 Vehicles

Varanasi railway station fire: A massive fire broke out in the parking area of Cantt railway station in Varanasi, in which at least 200 two-wheelers were burnt. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Visuals show that a huge fire broke out in the parking area and the fire brigade and police department officials were engaged in extinguishing the fire. In a video, police officials were seen pouring water on the fire using a water hose. Due to the heavy smoke, light haze of water was quite visible.

Nearly 12 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot to douse the fire, along with Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local police teams were also helping.

Varanasi railway station fire: Initial investigation has revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit.

It has also been found that no life was lost in this fire. GRP CO Kunwar Bahadur Singh said, “Some cycles have also been burnt… the fire was caused by a short circuit. We are investigating further.”

Most of the two-wheelers that were burnt in this incident belonged to railway employees.

A railway employee said, “I had parked my bike at around 12 o’clock at night… A person near me told me that there was a short circuit around 11 o’clock which was repaired. After a few hours, a passenger told me that there was a huge fire outside. I took out my bike and parked it on the other side… and then saw that the fire had spread to the parking lot.”
