Royal Enfield Scram 440 : A True Adventure Bike with Enhanced Off-Road Features
Royal Enfield says that the new Scram is inspired by a real adventure bike and not an upgraded roadster. It has 190mm front and 180mm rear off-road suspension travel, a strong and rigid chassis, low centre of gravity, and a long-stroke engine that delivers high torque at low revs, which improves acceleration and traction. Other features include top box accessory, 6-speed gearbox, LED headlamp, tubeless tyres, switchable ABS and new colour options. Read on for more details.
Royal Enfield Scram 440 : Enhanced Power, Performance, and Comfort with Upgraded Engine and Features
The new Scram now brings significant power and performance improvements, thanks to its upgraded Long Stroke engine, which offers high torque and superior drivability. The bore size has been increased by 3mm, taking the engine capacity to 443cc. This takes the power output to 25.4bhp at 6250rpm and torque to 34Nm at 4000rpm, which is much better than the Scram 411, which produces 24bhp at 6,500rpm and 32Nm at 4,250rpm.
According to Royal Enfield, the updated 443cc single-cylinder engine gets a sixth gear added, which not only reduces vibrations on the highway but also improves fuel efficiency. It also gets an improved final drive ratio that enhances tractive effort, and a redesigned pull-type clutch that reduces lever effort by 0.75kg and boosts durability. Other updates include a refined valvetrain that reduces engine noise, making the ride smooth and quiet. All these upgrades together make the new Scram a more powerful, versatile, and comfortable machine, perfect for both on-road and off-road adventures.
Adding to the excitement, Royal Enfield has also made some tweaks to the hardware. The braking system now gets a larger piston front caliper (30/32mm) along with switchable ABS that you can easily activate from the switch cube.
Royal Enfield Scram 440: A Stylish Upgrade with Retro Elements and Competitive Pricing
Apart from these updates, the new Scram closely follows the design of its predecessor, the Scram 411, with the signature round headlamp (now LED unit). It also gets a larger fuel tank with side-mounted 440 decals that pay homage to the old Scram 411. The bike also has a single-piece seat, which is slightly raised for the pillion, which improves comfort and completes the overall look. Other features include circular semi-digital instrument cluster, 41mm telescopic front forks, monoshock, front (300mm) and rear (240mm) discs, circular ORVMs, knuckle guards, and halogen turn indicators. The Scram 440 is available in five colours: Force Blue, Force Grey, Force Teal, Trail Green, Trail Blue.
The new Scram will go on sale in January 2025 and is expected to be priced at around Rs 2.40 lakh. For reference, the existing Scram 411 is priced between Rs 2.06 lakh and Rs 2.12 lakh.
